And it suggest that we have not moved much past the Victorian times when men who painted went off to work and women who painted were also expected to learn to play the piano, to sing, to stitch and cook as a part of being a good wife and mother. In general, our society still considers women who paint as hobbyist who do so out of their kitchens in their spare time and clearly we have generations of assumptions to tackle before we are truly taken seriously as professionals in our own right.
